Understanding this calculator
What this tool calculates
Name Rashi and Nakshatra Lookup is a sound-based traditional association, not a natal chart. It accepts a written or spoken first name, including supported regional scripts, and optionally a specific opening naming syllable. The existing engine normalizes pronunciation-related forms, compares the beginning of the text against a table of 108 Nakshatra-Pada naming sounds, and returns candidate Nakshatras, Padas, related Rashis and matched syllables. For every candidate the corresponding Rashi derives from the position of its Pada among 108 equal quarters of the sidereal zodiac. A matched name never establishes the Moon's actual longitude at birth.
How to interpret the result
Enter the name as pronounced, not merely an English spelling that might be ambiguous. When the automatic lookup returns multiple associations, use the explicit opening-syllable selector to narrow the search and inspect every remaining candidate. The selected sound takes precedence over the name text. The matching engine chooses the longest available opening-syllable match and, if that fails, may return a broader initial-family group instead of pretending it knows an exact Pada. For example, a name beginning with a broad 'K' sound can yield several traditional K-family associations; these are alternatives, not several astronomical birth stars for one person. Another example is a transliterated form such as Krishna: the tool retains uncertainty when its initial cluster does not exactly match one canonical entry and can display more than one candidate. To understand how a possible Moon Rashi label is associated with a returned Pada, note that each Pada occupies 3 degrees and 20 minutes of the sidereal circle; twelve Rashis divide that circle into thirty-degree sectors. The tool uses the fixed sector correspondence in the naming table, not an observed sky position. For an actual Janma Nakshatra, switch to Newborn Astrology or Jathakam and supply a reliable date, precise time and birthplace. Cross-check that calculation's Nakshatra/Pada against the traditional family naming convention if desired. A mismatch is not an error in a person's identity: names can be chosen independently of a birth-star sound.
Scope and limitations
Roman, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada spellings may represent different pronunciations, and automated transliteration cannot remove every ambiguity. The curated sound table, aliases and fallback are limited and not an exhaustive linguistic dictionary. Some communities use different initial sounds or deliberately ignore the traditional naming sequence. A name lookup does not calculate birth Moon Rashi, the ascendant, the natal chart or a prediction; do not describe a returned option as the person's verified birth star. The output carries no medical, relationship or personality certainty.
