Karana
Half of a Tithi, corresponding to each 6-degree step of Moon–Sun angular separation.
Definition
Because a Karana is half a Tithi, it changes more frequently than Tithi. Traditional Panchanga tables use repeating and fixed Karana names according to the lunar sequence.
Example
A single Tithi can contain two Karana periods before the next Tithi boundary.
Karana is normally read with Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga and weekday rather than alone.
