Marriage matching without one magic score

Ashtakoota and South-Indian Dasha Koota are related but distinct traditions.

  • Ashtakoota uses eight factors and a 36-point scale.
  • Dasha Koota/Porutham uses a different factor family and regional conventions.
  • A score is traditional context, not medical, genetic, fertility or guaranteed relationship advice.

Marriage matching is not one universal score. North-Indian Ashtakoota commonly uses eight factors with a 36-point scale, while South-Indian Dasha Koota or Porutham traditions use a different factor set and regional rule variations.

AstroVedic360 keeps those systems separate and labels the rule family being used. The goal is to show the traditional inputs and calculations, not to convert them into medical, genetic, fertility or guaranteed relationship claims.

What Ashtakoota measures

Ashtakoota combines eight traditional factors: Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. Each factor has its own inputs and maximum score, and the totals add to 36.

The total is useful only in the context of its tradition. A high total does not guarantee compatibility and a lower total does not establish that a relationship will fail. Factor-level detail is more informative than hiding everything behind the total.

How Dasha Koota differs

Dasha Koota or Porutham includes factors such as Dina, Gana, Mahendra, Stree Deergha, Yoni, Rashi, Rashi Adhipati, Vasya, Rajju and Vedha, depending on the selected tradition. Directional counting and regional exception tables can change the result.

A site should disclose the exact counting direction and the Rajju or Vedha table it uses. It should not silently merge regional traditions into one universal matrix.

Chart context beyond star matching

Birth-chart comparison can add Moon signs, Lagna context, Manglik screening and other natal factors. Those layers are separate from the Ashtakoota score and should not be used to manufacture a single certainty label.

Real relationships depend on communication, values, safety, consent, circumstances and many non-astrological factors. Traditional matching can be presented as cultural context, not as a substitute for personal judgement or professional advice.

Worked example: same pair, two traditional systems

A pair may receive a moderate Ashtakoota total while a South-Indian Porutham screen flags a particular Rajju or Vedha rule for review. That does not mean one calculation is automatically wrong; the systems ask different traditional questions.

The useful response is to inspect each rule, its input Nakshatras or Moon signs, and the disclosed regional convention rather than averaging incompatible systems into one score.

Methodology note

AstroVedic360 exposes Ashtakoota and Dasha Koota as distinct calculations, shows factor-level reasons and keeps unsupported health or outcome claims outside the report.
